Concrete Stain Removal

If you have stains on your concrete it's not the end of the world.

We now have many different cleaners that can remove stains from the slabs. For tree debris which discolors your patio we suggest first power washing the concrete to get most of the material off the surface. If a cleaner surface is requested then a diluted solution of light or heavy duty concrete cleaner is recommended. Concrete cleaner is a non acidic chemical which is able to get into the surface of the concrete and remove stains. We typically dilute it down to a 2 or 3 to 1 mix of water to cleaner. It is recommended that the surface of the concrete be wet down first and then the cleaner either sprayed on with a hand held sprayer or brushed on with a long handled brush in a 5 gallon bucket of water. This can take one or two applications depending on what you are trying to achieve. Wash the surface thoroughly when finished with the cleaner. It is important to wear protective eye wear, gloves and keep any skin away from this product. It will typically not harm any plants if it is properly diluted. Keep the cleaner away from paint or windows, and mask these areas off before attempting to clean your concrete. If you have an oil spill on your concrete one technique that can be used is to get a can of brake cleaner spray from your local auto parts store. Spray the brake cleaner onto the spill and let it soak, then take a clean rag and wipe it off. Repeat this process a few times and most of the spill should be removed. It might be necessary to use concrete cleaner on the spill if this isn't getting all of the spill up.
